Bikram or ‘hot’ yoga is a unique and scientific approach to teaching yoga: a fun and challenging 26 posture series. The 26 postures systematically move oxygenated blood to one hundred percent of the body (including each organ), restoring all systems to healthy working order, just as nature intended! Each posture stretches strengthens and prepares specific muscles, ligaments and joints needed for the next posture.
Why the heat? you may ask. Well, practising in the heat has many benefits. The ideal temperature for Bikram is 105 Fahrenheit / 40 Degrees Celsius with about 40% humidity. The room is kept at this temperature to:
Protect the muscles and allow deeper stretching.
Open the pores in your skin to allow the body to detox.
Thin the blood and clear the circulatory system.
Increase your heart rate giving you a cardiovascular workout without even having to leave your mat!
This version of the Bikram 90 may be shorter but the benefits are just at great. A more intense cardiovascular workout. Each teacher has their own spin on this series so always expect something a little different.
